Ben began his entrepreneurial journey when he followed his brother Sam into business back in 2002, starting small local wi-fi provider Airnet which was later rebranded as NOW. As the former Head of Marketing at NOW, Ben was responsible for developing the “Awesome” cheeky challenger branding and advertising that helped to set the company up to become a Hawke’s Bay success story.
With Airnet having won a Chamber of Commerce business award category back in 2008, Ben gained the first-hand experience and saw how valuable the process could be for entrants, both for having independent eyes giving insightful feedback on the businesses and for the PR perspective for the finalists and winners.
More recently Ben followed his passion back into small business, starting his own marketing consultancy Workshop X in 2016. Here he helps Hawke’s Bay entrepreneurs to develop their skills, fill their gaps and grow their businesses to help reach their full potential.
Ben also contracts part-time to EIT where he is responsible for Entrepreneurship @ EIT, a new programme focussed on supporting and growing EIT student entrepreneurs and their businesses.
Ben is also a part-time student at EIT enrolled in the Postgraduate Master of Applied Management program in the School of Business.
Ben and his wife Teresa live in Napier and when Ben isn’t working on his client's businesses or studying for his Masters he is often found on any one of Hawke’s Bays mountain bike trails or walking tracks.
