Dean has over 15 years of professional experience spent primarily in the financial services and wine industries. He has a particular interest in the development, alignment and implementation of the organisational strategy. In October 2016, Dean joined the Executive of Hawke’s Bay Airport as Commercial Manager.
Dean spent the first four years of his career working in a small family owned start-up. This was a challenging and valuable introduction to business where his primary responsibilities were associated with brand development and distribution growth.
Seeking a broader perspective, Dean left the family business in 2006 to work as an analyst in the financial services sector before returning to the wine industry where he spent four years in the role of Export and Market Development Manager at Mission Estate.
In 2011 Dean was offered a role in Mainland China where he spent three years managing the procurement, sales and marketing for a Chinese owned wine importer/retailer. This was a valuable opportunity to gain a cultural understanding of the Chinese market and a buyer’s perspective of the international wine supply chain.
In 2014, he returned to Mission Estate where he led the company’s Sales and Marketing function for two years before joining Hawke’s Bay Airport.
Dean holds bachelor’s degrees in both Commerce and Science from the University of Auckland and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology from Lincoln University. He lives in Taradale with his wife and two young children.
