Trade Agreements
Trade agreements between two or more countries make international trade easier and more efficient. New Zealand is committed to liberalising trade through a number of regional, bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.
Agreements in Force
- New Zealand-Hong Kong, China Closer Economic Partnership (NZ-HK CEP entered into force on 1 January 2011)
- New Zealand-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (MNZFTA entered into force on 1 August 2010)
- ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA) - 2010
- New Zealand-China Free Trade Agreement (NZ-China FTA) - 2008

FTA Duty reductions from 1 January 2012:
From 1 January 2012 there will be further tariff reductions for NZ exports under several existing Free Trade Agreements (FTAs). In particular with NZ China FTA there are changes to dairy, fish, meat, animal products and fats. Please use this Tariff Finder to check the reductions and rules of origin.
- With NZ-Malaysia there are changes to beauty products, wood and steel. Please use this Tariff Finder to check the rates and rules of origin on your product. Exporters should note that Malaysia is also a signatory to AANZFTA and compare rates and rules of origin. AANZTA Phillipines: wood, meat and paper. Please use this Tariff Finder to check rate reductions and rules of origin.
- New Zealand also has an FTA with Thailand and the Trans Pacific Strategic Economic Partnership with Chile and Brunei Darussalam, which provide further rate reductions on New Zealand exports from 1 January 2012.
