EXPO 2010 Shanghai China
In 2010 Shanghai will host the biggest World Expo in the history of world expositions. The Expo will run from 1 May to 31 October 2010. As at 8th August 2008, 177 countries, 44 international organizations and 7 UN organizations have confirmed to participate in the World Expo 2010 Shanghai.
More than 70 million people are expected to visit the expo site, which covers 5..28 square square kilometers on the banks of the Huangpu River in central Shanghai.
The site for Expo 2010 is located at a region between Nanpu Bridge and Lupu Bridge along both sides of the Huangpu River. The Bailianjing rivulet joins the Huangpu River in the Pudong section of the site, creating a pleasant waterfront area.
New Zealand Pavilion Location
New Zealand will spend $30 million constructing and promoting its pavilion for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai, Prime Minister John Key said.
The sum is five times the amount spent at the last world expo at Aichi in Japan and Mr Key said he was planning to return to China next year with a business delegation to promote New Zealand and its business links.
The Chinese are estimating 70 million people will visit the expo and Mr Key said if only a small number of those chose to buy New Zealand goods or visit the country, then the economic spin-offs would be enormous.
Speaking at the opening of a business centre for New Zealanders working in Shanghai, Mr Key said New Zealand had to invest heavily to increase trade into China.
The time for debating the merits and potential of doing business with China was over.
