Business Information Zone -
Fully funded Biz help for your business

Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce' new business information zone (or Biz for short)
is a fully funded service that provides help to people starting or running a business.
Biz is a specialist business information and referral service that is offered through a
nation-wide network of walk-in information centres, a freephone and online service.

Our Biz advisor can help you access the information, contacts, training and advice
you need to develop and build your business. They can give you information on both
government and private sector business services.

Getting good advice from specialists can improve the performance of your business
and allow you to focus on the business areas that need your attention.
Advisors are in business to help you succeed in yours and are available for advice on utilising people like accountants or tax agents, bank managers, local councils, lawyers
and small business enterprise centres.

If you don't have the time to visit your local Biz centre the business.govt.nz website
has the answer. Online there are answers to more than one hundred thousand
common labour market and workplace questions. On the off chance that your
question is an 'uncommon' one, the online discussion groups can provide a solution.

For free information and assistance in finding the right Biz advisor that suit your business,
contact us via email or phone 06 876 5938.
The Chamber network has set up a website to support  the measures for SME's.

New Business ‘Health’ Checklist
The new Business Health Check has now been launched and is an easy to use web-based tool which a business owner can use to assess the health of their business in five key areas.

  • Finance
  • Future
  • Products and Services
  • Marketing
  • Capability
Click here to go the Business Health Check
The Health Check consists of 50 questions about the current state of a business. Business owners are asked to rank the questions in order of importance in relation to their business. Once a business owner has answered the questions they are presented with a list of the most important actions they should take to improve the health of their business. This list also contains numerous templates, articles, links and best practice suggestions that would be useful to any NZ business owner.
EIT - NZIM Small Business Entrepreneurs Certificate
The Chamber has been in conversation with the Business School at EIT about  an ‘applied’ course for small businesses which is not taught in a classroom but relies on a mentoring programme with you working on projects in our businesses and sharing that experience with a small group (max 6). The core of the course then is your working on issues in your business supported by reports from other business people and the course mentor. Ideal and practical. Starts early next year with a meeting once a month for about 12 months. The cost is approx $2300 and frankly for business mentoring and coaching this is a bargain. Contact Nick Cordery at EIT (06) 974 8000 or 0800 22 55 348.
